The Empire Report - Tuesday, June 22, 2021 - Race Analysis

RACE 1 - Very tough race to start off tonight's card: (6) UNWRITTEN RULE wasn't bad 3 starts back in

his YR debut, rallying for 3rd after being well back early - won a maiden race at PcD after that (in a slow

mile) then was just too far back last week to have any realistic chance - if Brennan can hustle him away to a

better start tonight, his chances will go way up. (4) RAILIN JENNINGS took the late $$ to go off slightly

favored in his local debut but could only manage a 3rd place finish - if he can build off that effort, he'll have

a decent chance here. (1) BRUSHING UP came up a little light at the end last week at Buffalo but that was

against better (Excelsior A) - has speed from the rail, and that gives him at least a chance. (8) DILLIN GER

is just 1 for 18 lifetime but probably has enough speed to blast from Post 8 and get himself into the mix -

willing to consider if the price is right. (3) KEEPAMERICAGREAT is winless in 24 career starts but did hit

board in 8 of them - willing to throw in underneath. (7) OLD TOWN ROAD has shown little in 3 YR

starts, draws poorly, but is facing a somewhat lesser bunch tonight - might give a better showing. (2)

MAJOR ACE draws well, but has shown little so far on the racetrack. (5) TAPESTRY has shown nothing

in 6 Canadian starts...usually at big prices.

RACE 2 - (2) SALT LIFE was razor sharp crushing a NW4 field here 3 starts back - got roughed up and

tired in his next at Stga. (vs. some good OLDER foes), but bounced right back with a sharp (off the pace)

2nd against similar in his last - catches a modest NW6 field returning to YR, and should be a pretty tough

customer. (5) MAJOR BEAN adds Lasix after weakening a bit in a NYSS event at Stga. last week - he's

4-2-1-1 in his local starts, and looms the main danger to the top one. (1) BETTOR AT HIGHTIDE shipped

in from Canada on 4/13 and was a winner in his local debut - has picked up only pieces in 7 starts since

then, though, and is probably looking at a smaller piece again tonight (but still has a good chance to hit

board). (4) TREVORS ACE is now 0 for 13 at Yonkers, and that includes many losses vs. lesser - small

piece only. (6) RETOUR AU JEU showed a lot of promise this winter but failed to blossom as much as his

owners probably hoped for - he fits ok here, and will likely be rallying late....not sure how many he can

pass, though. (3) MASTER CONRAD seemed a bit overmatched in his only local attempt.

RACE 3 - (4) WARRAWEE WHYNOT was solid all through the Weiss Series, winning the consolation as

the prohibitive choice - has continued to race well since then, and that includes last week's close 2nd (to the

4/5 winner) in his local debut - the one to beat in what turns out to be a pretty strong NW2 field! (3) TAPP

ED TEEN was probably going to win easily last week had he not made that mega-costly break on the final

turn - he'll be a decent price here, and couldn't blame anybody looking to take a shot with him. (2) ICANG

OGO benefited from a rail shot in last week's Buffalo victory but he'd been on the upswing even before

that, and should be able to work out a decent trip tonight - use in exotics. (1) SHAKESPEARE has ability

but he's now 1 for 16 in his career, and often gets way overbet - wouldn't be surprised to see him win, but

there won't be any value using him on top. (6) SIX DEGREES shipped in sharp from PA and was able to

blast to the top from Post 7 in his local debut - ended up finishing 2nd off a two hole trip, but he draws

poorly in a good field here, and may have to settle for a smaller share tonight. (7) THINKING OF SLIM

couldn't fully sustain his first over move last week and now lands outside of several solid rivals - minor

share only. (5) BOLT POWER changes barns for his 4th career start and while he's been improving, this is a

pretty tough NW2 field - wait for an easier spot. (8) WHAT ABOUT BOB draws poorly again, and doesn't

figure to be able to make much noise from out here.

RACE 4 - (1) THEFREEDOMFIGHTER N is 0 for 20 locally and therefore usually not selected on top...

but he does draw the rail in a pretty soft basement field, and just missed in a couple of recent local starts -

maybe tonight's the night? (5) BENHOPE RULZ N wasn't on his game for a while (facing better) but did

pick up 3rds in his last pair after dropping in class - logical player here. (2) SOHO CHELSEAA always

seemed to have more ability than he's shown on the racetrack, and failed to hit board in 3 local tries this

year - still, has to be seen as a legitimate threat from this spot. (7) PATRIOT NATION looked good last

year in his first couple of local tries but just never developed throughout the year (and is just 1 for 11 so far

in 2021) - hard to really like his chances from Post 7, even in this modest field. (3) HAGGARD is a fresh

face debuting for a new barn...but it's hard to gauge how his out of town lines will stack up against these -

we'll learn more tonight. (6) MAURICE has thrown some good ones here in the past, but doesn't seem to be

on his game right now, and ships in off a complete clunker - pass for now. (4) WHITTAKER N is 7-0-0-0

locally, and has missed a month - prefer others. (8) BEVANS CULLEN N draws Post 8 after being no good

at all from the pole last week.

RACE 5 - (1) DANCING JOE was pretty well backed 3 starts down and improved significantly to score

the strong first over victory - no chance 8 hole in his next, but another good try from Post 4 in last, earning

a 2 hole trip then finishing a close 3rd - deserves the edge with the rail draw tonight. (2) NUTTIN BUT

FINES SE was an absurd 1/10 price 2 back but did win with extreme ease - not nearly as sharp when 5th

from Post 7 in last (same race as #1), but gets major post relief here and would seem to be the main danger.

(3) SURR EALIN had a handful of "ok" starts at 2 - has come back better at 3, and enters this race off a

pair of wins out of town, including an Excelsior A victory at Buffalo - would be no surprise at all. (7)

KEYSTONE NOLAN pounced on a perfect trip to win 2 back, then rallied with crisp pace for 4th after

sitting at the back in last - as good as anything in here, but facing another tough journey with the outside

draw. (5) GREYSTO NEFASTMILES is off to a decent start to his career, compiling a 7-2-3-0 record out

of town - perhaps the tote board will offer some clues to his chances against the locals? (8) BARRYWHITE

HANOVER made his local debut a winning one, after a bunch of 2nds in PA - faces tougher now while also

moving all the way outside, and the guess is that he'll be looking at a smaller piece for tonight. (4) MIKI U

SO FINE has been struggling most weeks vs. similar at Chester - prefer others. (6) AIR GUITAR adds

Lasix, but his local tries have been uninspiring, and he's stuck with Post 6.

RACE 6 - Tough race: (2) WELL DONE SON went a huge effort (for 2nd ) two back but that was no real

surprise, as he was making his first start for a trainer that has seemingly been adding wings to his new

arrivals lately - was just as solid when 2nd again in last (after a tough first over trip), and we'll look for him

to get over the hump and grab a win tonight...although this field has some live contenders! (5) GAMBLIN

GTERROR has been very good for several starts now, and may continue to get even better now that Lasix

has been added - he's hard to pick on top, though, as he's now sitting at 3 for 69 lifetime! (7) STOP STARI

NG might have been the most absurd 1/20 shot ever 3 back but at least he was able to survive, by a neck -

he's won 2 more since then, and is definitely a legit contender here....just hard to recommend on top as the

2-1 ML choice from Post 7. (1) CRYSTAL BEACH is 2 for 6 this year and one of those wins came right

here at Yonkers - draws best, and anything close to his best would put him in the hunt for a decent piece.

(8) AQUAMAN HANOVER added Lasix for his last, shot right to the front and was a sharp, 10-1 overlay

winner - won't be nearly as easy from Post 8, though! (4) SPORTY DRAGON shows some good lines in

western Canada, qualified nicely for a new barn, and wouldn't be a bad bomb to consider. (2) MAKE AME

RICA GREAT seems a bit cheap for these - wait for an easier spot. (6) FURIOUS BEACH draws Post 6 in

a strong field and doesn't figure to make a lot of noise in here.

RACE 7 - (1) ONE OFF DELIGHT A was a winner 3 and 4 starts back before getting stuck with a pair of

8 holes - moves all the way back inside, gets to control the action, and he's the one they'll have to beat. (5)

BILL HALEY N was a sharp winner here on 5/25 then returned 3 weeks later with another sharp effort,

pacing a sharp final half to grab 2nd from way back - a live trip would make him a serious contender here.

(7) TIN ROOF RAIDER is an interesting longshot - was a winner here on 4/30 then raced well for 2nd the

following week....but ended up in impossible spots in his next three - may never find a way into the race

from out here but if the price is juicy enough, it's worth the gamble that he does. (4) KINNDER JACKSON

was excellent from Post 8 on 5/24 so it was no surprise to see him come back to win last week...but he

definitely was hanging a bit at the end...steps up in class here, and will need to be a bit sharper if he hopes

to contend again for a top slot. (3) SOUTHWIND MORROCAN continues to race well, but is forced to

move up again and we'll see if his form can hold against these tougher foes - maybe throw in for 3rd? (2)

HEAVENLY SOUND was racing well prior to the sick scratch on 5/26 - may take a conservative approach

here of the qualifier. (6) LUCK N ROLL K ships in sharp, but has been facing lesser- he'll have to prove it

against these. (8) CAMPORA N's only win this year came at the bottom level - pass from Post 8 vs. these.

RACE 8 - (1) ROLLING WITH SAM threw a rare dud last week but it's probably a good sign that he's

right back in the box - barn sent out a couple of very sharp performers on Monday night, but landed on

brutal trips...maybe this guy can make up for it with a nice trip from the pole? (6) BEACH FIRE K only

raced here once this year and landed on a horrible trip (and gets a pass) - ships back in for a very live barn,

and may be able to do some damage tonight at a pretty long price. (8) CAPTAIN SLEAZE came up 2nd

best to Billy Clyde in a fats mile last week - he's probably the "best horse" in here, but he also has Post 8,

and is just 2 for 23 lifetime - could get into some trouble at a pretty short price. (2) CAPTIVATE HANOV

ER is just 3 for 35 lifetime, but ships in from PcD showing some pretty consistent form and can probably

pick up a good piece...as long as the trip is easy enough. (4) SARANAC BLUE CHIP was fortunate to slip

off the cones last week on the final turn but found the pace to win it once he did - surprised Siegelman took

#5, but Buter can have a say here with this guy's quick gate speed. (5) BRAZEN BRAZILLIAN has also

used quick starts to establish good trips but he may be hurt by #4 leaving to his inside - minor share only.

(3) DELETRIUS was overmatched in his Hilltop debut and may be in the same boat tonight. (7) ALWAYS

ON THE HUNT has been dull at PcD, and draws poorly upon arrival at YR.

RACE 9 - (3) BRONX SEELSTER had the room he needed last week but came up 3rd best in a 3 way

battle to the finish - underachiever drops yet again and remains the one to beat...but don't fall in love with

him at a very short price! (1) BETTOR THAN SPRING was well backed last week (off the drop) despite

some lackluster form but he was able to reward the faithful with an easy front end score - steps up one

notch here, but the rail draw figures to make him a very live player once again. (2) WESTERN HILL was

stuck racing first over while up in class last week and that just didn't work out - he's been sharp prior to

that, though, and can rebound with a better effort tonight with an easier trip (hard to consider on top as he's

just 1 for 43 over the past 2 years). (7) MOTIVE HANOVER ships back in from Pocono off a lifetime best

1:50.4 win - no luck at all with the draw but at 20-1 ML, he's worth throwing in underneath. (4) GHOST

DANCE is just 1 for 14 this year and that (recent) win came at the bottom level - smaller piece only. (6)

MCCLINCHIE N is a solid player at this level - chance to land somewhere on the ticket if the trip goes his

way. (5) IM BENICIO A shockingly refused to pull into the slow fractions last week but after watching him

finish, it was probably the right choice - struggling now, and we'll wait for some better signs. (8) AUDI

HARE N draws another poor post, and will likely have to wait at least another week.

RACE 10 - (1) NOCTURNAL BLUECHIP started out in the Open when he arrived in April but just never

really clicked - has become a much bigger factor after a few class drops, and basically finds himself in a

"now or never" spot from the pole tonight - there's a good chance he can finally get the job done... but he's

not one to bet the rent money on! (2) BLACK CHEVRON N had good life finishing on 5/25 and held that

form after the short summer break, scoring easily off a pocket trip in last - moves up a peg, but that

shouldn't slow him down too much - should be close from start to finish. (4) MAJOR CROCKER A gets

both post and class relief, and he should be a player from this spot - include in exotics. (6) ZACH MAGUI

RE N bumps up a notch here, but he's sharp right now and may be able to add some value to the gimmicks.

(8) MY DELIGHT was claimed for $25K last week but gets no luck with the draw for his new connections

- check the tote board for a sense as to how serious he'll be from Post 8. (3) FULLBACK looked like a

winner last week but hung horribly in the latter stages (as we've seen him do before) - ok for a small piece.

(5) HALF A BILLION pulled up in distress on 12/12 and hasn't been seen until now - prefer to just watch a

start or two. (7) FRISKY PERDRO lands Post 7 moving up in class with only one start in 6+ weeks - pass.

RACE 11 - The "Super Siblings" have elevated the performances of endless horses over the past couple of

years but (1) DRAGON SAID may turn out to be their best one yet -- he was literally a nondescript,

lower-level Freehold horse for most of his career....and in just one week, this barn transformed him into an

absolute beast! He's currently 5 for 5 since the switch, and he comes into this off an eye opening 1:50

qualifier over at Gaitway last week - he still throws a few steps at times, but the inside draw will be a big

help in that department - the one to beat. (5) GARDYS LEGACY A has impressed since arriving stateside

recently, and can be forgiven for his last couple (facing some very nice older horses) - would normally have

been the heavy favorite shipping in to this class with his form...but he'll need to be really good tonight to

beat the top choice. (2) SO MANY ROADS will get away as best he can, sit the cones and look to rally late

- could earn him a decent piece here. (4) DIAMONDBEACH got worn into submission by a very talented

3YO winner last week - his overall work has been excellent, and he could easily do better than this rating.

(6) QUAGMIRE BLUECHIP will be coming from the back, and will need some trip luck in order to make

his good late finish pay off significantly. (7) SUMTHINBOUTIM will likely be pretty conservative off last

week's miscue - keep an eye for the future. (8) LOUS SWEETREVENGE needed his last after missing

almost 3 months - could be tighter now, but the draw is the problem. (3) CHEYENNE RYAN LEE mau just

be overmatched against a bunch of these.

RACE 12 - (2) HOT DEUCE returns to Yonkers after a pair of seconds at Chester behind the impressive

On The Cards N, and Casual Cool (currently riding a 4 race win streak) - wired 'em the last time he raced

here at this level, and is a big threat to do it again tonight. (8) FUNKNWAFFLES charged home from way

back in last to be a close 4th - if Buter rolls the dice and leaves from Post 8, this guy can have a big say (if

not used too hard for position). (1) BETTING EXCHANGE doesn't get his picture taken here too often, but

this is the kind of spot where he can take home a good piece. (4) ST LADS NEPTUNE had a very

encouraging return try on 5/21 after yet another layoff, but faltered up at "The Ridge" racing aggressively

in his next - could be a decent value horse for exotics returning to YR. (5) WALKINSHAW N has been

disappointing as of late, but perhaps tonight's class drop will produce a better effort. (7) FIZZING N raced

evenly at the back from Post 8 off 3 weeks in his last...unfortunately, he gets no luck with the draw tonight.

(3) KASEY JOHN A seems to need a bit cheaper to produce his best work. (6) ABRAXAS BLUES A was

terrific beating cheaper 2 back, but was no factor at all in last - losing Zeron isn't going to help his cause.
