The Empire Report - Wednesday, April 19, 2023 - Race Analysis

RACE 1 - (2) ALTUS HANOVER clearly enjoyed his time off as he returned with a very good looking win

(at PcD) to start off his 2023 season - clearly he gets along well with Boyd, and we'll see if the pair can get

the job done here at Yonkers too. (4) IN MY DREAMS lost all chance with an early miscue last week but

he did look very good coming through the wire, after the fact - he knows his way to the YR winner's circle,

and could offer some decent value tonight. (3) EPOS OSTERVANG DK came up 2nd best in his first start

of '23 and he's been 1st of 2nd in half of his 14 local starts - clearly a major threat, but also figures to be

overbet. (6) ITS A HORSE has really stepped up his game since the recent barn change, going 3 for 3 as he

continues to climb the class ladder - is he good enough right now to take on the 50s....we'll find out tonight!

(1) LUCKY WEEKEND has been ultra consistent lately, but he also seems to consistently come up weak

right at the very end of his miles - moves up in class, but does draw the pole with Brennan...good one to use

underneath. (7) EMPEREURTHEBEST FR rebounded nicely from a rough local outing on 3/15, but lands

in a brutal spot for his Hilltop return - may have to wait for a better scenario before we see his best. (5)

BAZILLIONAIRE is as camera shy as they come, but a minor share is always possible.

RACE 2 - (1) HIGH FASHION STAR showed ability and promise at 2 (in KY), winning 3 of 5 starts - her

qualifiers (for her new barn) look solid, and she pairs up with our leading driver for her 3YO debut - lot to

like! (5) COALFORDNSHINE GB had a rough trip off a bad date in NJ on (3/24) but showed up ready for

action here last week, effortlessly wiring the field - faces a bit tougher now, but should still be a very

dangerous player - the main danger? (3) DINNER AND DANCING raced a couple of times in Canada at 2

before getting turned out - started off her 3YO campaign with a well backed victory at Woodbine, and has

since qualified (twice) nicely with her trainer on board - would be no surprise at all. (6) FOX VALLEY

CACHET was a consistent player here last year, though light in the win column- she's been racing ok lately

in PA, but is now 3 for 35 lifetime (with 19 seconds and thirds) - ok to use underneath. (4) BENICIO was

an ok 3rd in her local debut but no factor last week - needs to bring that better version for a chance at a

piece. (2) ROLL WITH SHORTY is just 1 46 lifetime - prefer to just watch in her 2nd start of the year.

RACE 3 - John Brennan Trotting Series, Leg #2: (6) HOOLIE N HECTOR has been sharp for a long time

so it was no surprise to see him win off the class drop last week, even from the extreme outside - gets the

post edge on his main foe, and remains the one to beat for tonight. (7) SPICY NUGGET disappointed in his

first local try but fought hard for a win the next start - he was VERY good last week, used very hard early

on yet still able to rally in the stretch once he found some room - Gingras isn't here tonight, but seems to

have found quite a capable replacement in Dunn...could be the main threat. (2) BRAVE BY DESIGN just

missed in his 2nd start of the year then chased the top choice all the way last week before coming up 2nd

best - solid chance to land somewhere on the ticket once again. (1) CRESCENT BEAUTY had fallen off

form before coming up with a big mile on 3/30, almost upsetting #7 (at 16-1) - she was one of many horses

scratched from this barn last week, and that makes her a bit of a question mark for tonight. (3) PERFECT

TITAN used an easy trip to pick up 3rd in Leg #1 - we'll see if he can fare as well with what figures to be a

tougher journey tonight. (5) MUSCLEDOVER has never really clicked since joining our leading barn back

in Nov. - raced ok last start, and we'll see if he can continue to improve. (5) INFINITY STONE slaps the

hopples back on after making breaks in three consecutive starts - we'll just observe this week.

RACE 4 - John Brennan Trotting Series, Leg #2: (6) UNEVERGONNAGETHIS saw his strong 3YO

campaign end with a lame scratch in Canada on 11/21 - was freshened up, and looked super in his 2023

return, finishing a sharp 2nd best in Leg 1 of this series after a first over trip - figures to be that much

tighter now, and his barn has been sending out some beastly performers lately (particularly in the Borgata

Series!) - gets top billing, even from Post 6. (5) TACHYON was off to a great start in '23 before hitting a

rough patch - got his act together in a big way last week, however, popping out of the 2 hole and defeating

a pair of quality foes in the first leg of this series - a similar effort makes him dangerous once more. (3) C

YOU AGAIN DK was a Week ne winner, holding off the top choice after cutting the mile- his connections

can never be taken lightly, but there may be better value with a couple of others. (2) TORRONE was very

good in his local debut, not as sharp in his next but a solid 3rd last week - eligible for another good piece

tonight, thanks to his quick starts. (1) MUSCLE DAN seems a notch below the main players, but the rail

draw does give him a shot to tow along for some minor spoils. (4) LEXUS MARK broke in his local debut

but certainly is capable of doing some damage if he behaves tonight - he's listed on the bottom here, but

will every chance to do much better than that.

RACE 5 - (4) SOUTHWIND PETYR kicked home full of pace in his first try at this level (3/8) then beat

OPEN 50s the next week - got in a little too tough in his last pair but the drop back down into this class

makes him the one to beat tonight. (6) COALITION HANOVER has been claimed each of the last 4 weeks

and it's really not surprising considering the success he's had this year - obviously gets a pass for last week

(broken equipment) and figures to have a big say tonight for his new crew (2) STELLAR YANKEE usually

races very well when he draws inside and tonight should be no exception - good one to include in exotics.

(5) BETTOR SUN has hit board in 6 straight but is still winless at YR - using underneath only. (1) BELLS

DAVID looked a bit cheap shipping in last week but raced ok for 4th - draws best, and that could help him

take home another share tonight. (7) CAVIART SARGENT has found his form after a long drought but

really gets the worst of the draw tonight - he's looking at a tough trip, and that has us leaning towards others

(3) JIM BLUE does have ability but he's been his own worst enemy virtually every local start - sticking

with others, but with the recognition that Bartlett MAY have better luck with him. (8) SHAKESPEARE is a

much better horse than he's been showing out of town and moves to a barn that may be able to get the best

out of him...but may have to wait for a better spot to do so.

RACE 6 - John Brennan Trotting Series, Leg #2 - Very tough race! (3) SHARE THE WEALTH was used

hard twice last week and just missed - Kakaley is back on board, and he's driven this guy to a win and two

close 2nds - one of several with legitimate chances in here, and likely to be a pretty decent price. (5) PRIM

ADONNA DEO came up 2nd best from the pocket in her first 2 YR starts but absolutely crushed a cheaper

field last week with a 1:54.4 blowout score - not sure why she didn't race in the first leg, and also hard to

say how she'll fare facing this much tougher bunch - would probably like her better if not for that 9/5 ML

price! (6) CALL ME DANI beat a NW15000 field 3 back then just lost to the talented B NICKING the next

week - hard to know why she just threw a clunker last start, but she'll be a big price off that effort and does

have the ability to be a player here....if she bounces back to her better form. (4) SWAN FLYER won his

first 3 local starts before getting worn down by the pocket popping TACHYON last week - could easily

rebound here, even if forced to race from off the pace. (2) CANTSTOP YANKEE always had plenty of

speed/talent but he can be prone to miscues AND he just seems to have gotten way too hot lately - if Buter

could help him to relax here, his chances would go up considerably. (1) LOS BALLYKEELAMIGO feels

like a borderline player in this series and landing in this stacked field figures to leave him looking at only

small scraps. (7) OH BOY went a much better try last week but this is just a brutal spot.

RACE 7 - John Brennan Trotting Series, Leg #2 - another strong field! (3) OUTSIDE THE FIRE comes

into tonight having won 4 straight, and sports an 11-7-2-1 Yonkers record - he draws well enough to pick

out whatever trip Zeron wants, and has to be listed on top...but he does face a few very legitimate foes here,

so be careful before hopping on board at a very short price! (6) PAPPARDELLE won all 3 local starts last

year, including an "8th to first" victory to end his 2022 season - made his first start of the year last week in

Leg #1 and was handled conservatively, finishing full of trot to be a close 2nd at the wire - should be ready

to bring his best here, and it would be no surprise at all if he was able to come out on top. (2) GAELIHILL

raced super from off the pace when 2nd in his Hilltop debut then raced just as well last week, getting the

top from Post 7 and losing only to OPEN dropdown winner P L OSCAR - should be right in the hunt once

more. (5) FIREINSIDEMYVEINS weakened at PcD in his 2022 return but was certainly sharp in Week 1

of this series, sitting 3rd and finishing right behind #2 - could add some value to the exotics. (1) SUMMIT

CITY SONNY was right there 3rd in his local debut last week, though outbattled by a couple of harder

used rivals for the top slots - will need to find a bit more to overtake the top ones in here. (4) PERFECT VI

XEN trotted evenly in Week 1 but catches a tough bunch and may struggle tonight. (7) SOUTHWIND

ARTURO lands all the way outside after making a break last week - sticking with others.

RACE 8 - Good race: (1) CAPTAINS STAR couldn't sustain her bid into the lane last week but that's

understandable after pacing her 3rd panel in under :27 seconds - she could be in line for a GOOD trip this

week, and the price may even be pretty decent - worth a look in a hard race to predict. (5) MCNATURAL L

looked like she might be a bit cheap arriving from Ohio last week, and was also exiting one of the leading

barns in the nation....but she certainly proved otherwise when able to just launch a wide move from the

back on the final turn and pace over a field of $50K claiming mares - tonight's conditions were opened up

to fit her in, and we'll see if she can take advantage (wouldn't take a short price from this spot, however).

(4) TONYS MOM joined our leading barn last week and kicked home with crisp pace for 2nd behind the

favored frontrunner - she's a very logical player tonight, but does figure to be somewhat overbet in this

solid field. (6) FRANTASY HANOVER was 3 for 3 here last year and does have plenty of ability - she just

missed to Matchmaker Mare MAN DONTFORGET ME at PcD 2 back (after just missing to a streaking

PURE SILKY), but she really struggled with her gait in her local starts, and any type of difficult trip MAY

derail her from this spot (or maybe it won't)! (2) WILDCAT ANTONIA has been a solid player since

arriving 3 starts back - may be a notch below a couple of these, but we'll find out tonight. (3) CLEAR THE

WAY could use some softer competition.

RACE 9 - John Brennan Trotting Series, Leg #2: (1) ARMSTEAD COLE was very impressive in Leg #1,

charging home for 2nd behind OUTSIDE THE FIRE despite being stuck behind terrible cover - draws best

for tonight, and will probably get to control the action - gets top billing. (6) P L OSCAR dropped out of the

Open, grabbed a two hole trip and reported home a winner in the first leg - bit tougher spot tonight, but still

a very real threat to take another. (2) WHAT SHOULD I GOO is the "x factor" in here - she was a talented

3YO filly and even held her own in our tough FM Open Trot - was freshened up, started off her 4YO

campaign with a win at PcD but was used hard here from Post 8 on 3/30, weakening just a bit to 3rd in the

lane - came back on short rest for the first leg of the series and was no factor at all, raising the question as

to whether she was 100% for that start - she's right back in to go, and can be a player here IF back on her

top game. (5) SWAN TRIXIE gapped most of the way last week then was behind a wall of horses once into

the stretch - the jury is still out on this one. (4) VALI HANOVER had that sharp first over win 2 back but

has otherwise been "meh" in most of his other recent starts - needs to find that better game to be a player

here. (7) WICKENBURGH was on a good roll but broke 2 back then had no real pop in his last - Post 7 just

makes things even tougher. (3) HAND DOVER DAN has speed/ability for sure, but remains a work in

progress as he's been plagued by too many miscues.

RACE 10 - (5) MOSTINTERESTINGMAN was heading right for the top here 2 back but blew up getting

the lead (in NW10000) - was probably content to just stay trotting at the back of the pack in NJ last week

and now returns to YR at a level WAY below what he's used to facing - hard to go against him here, but

also hard to accept too short a price! (2) ILLBENEEDINSTITCHES was hammered down to 2/5 off the

class drop at PcD last week and was a very easy winner - should have built some confidence with that win,

and can be a player with this group too. (3) GREG has been struggling a bit with better but should

appreciate tonight's class relief - logical player for exotics. (4) DOWN THE PIKE MIKE was good for a

few starts but seems to have gone the wrong way recently- we'll see if the class drop helps him find a better

effort. (1) PINE BUSH ROSE was away since August 2020 but still turned in a nice effort to be 3rd off that

(VERY!) long layoff at Monti - wasn't up for the sizzling 1:55 mile she caught upon arrival at YR on 3/29,

then was scratched injured from her last - it's anybody's guess as to what we'll get from her tonight. (7) TES

LA SEELSTER really hasn't been sharp and lands all the way outside. (6) JUST MAYBE THE ONE seems

better suited for the competition upstate.

RACE 11 - (3) ZIG ZAG has made 3 starts so far in 2023 and improved each week, culminating with last

week's sharp first over score in this class - we'll stay on board and look for him to take another. (1) P C

FREE WHEELING was super in that blowout 2 back but proved no match for the top one when they

hooked up in the lane last week - if she brings her best she'll have a chance to reverse that decision, but she

can definitely be a little tough to predict from start to start. (2) MISSION VOYAGE had no trouble just

outrunning cheap ones 2 back but did race well again last week, parlaying an easy trip into a close 3rd -

another easy journey could put him close with these too. (7) UP HELLY AA seems to (finally) be on the

upswing- terrible spot, but that 20-1 ML price does make him worth at least a look. (4) AFTER ALL PAUL

has been a model of consistency, but WINS have been hard to come by - seems better used underneath,

rather than on top. (5) BLUEBIRD JESSE was starting to improve after the barn change in late Feb. but

seems to have leveled off - looking for better signs. (6) SWANSEA landed on a perfect trip last week

(behind #3) but drifted late and hung in the lane - may not get the same good journey tonight from Post 6.

RACE 12 - (3) CANTKEEPMIASECRET now has 3 starts since returning from the layoff and was handled

pretty conservatively each time - she picked up a 3rd and a 2nd in her last pair, and it feels like this is the

spot where she can get back to the winner's circle. (6) NEXTROUNDSONME made $103K here last year

and is used to facing better - he hasn't quite found his top form in NJ so far in '23, but he's been solid vs,

similar to these, and that 12-1 ML price does make him worth a look. (1) RIVER OF DENILE made her

first start for our leading trainer off a 5 week layoff (in NJ) and was no factor at 13-1 - dropped right back

in the box the next week, was hammered down to 6/5 and delivered the pocket victory (vs. easier) - will

have every chance to keep improving and take another, but she also figures to be considerably overbet! (2)

VELVET STYLE hasn't come close to his top form in 2023 so far but at least he's now staying flat, and

picking up good pieces - willing to include underneath. (5) FULL RIGHTS just didn't fire last week but

gets a class drop, and is another to consider for the bottom of exotics. (4) TORKIL generally does his best

work when down at the bottom level - draws well enough here for a chance to save ground and perhaps

grab a minor check. (7) MYCROWNMYKINGDOM fell apart in the lane 2 back (off a two hole trip) then

made a break last week - hard to recommend right now. (8) EMOTIONS RICHES just hasn't been on his

game in some time, and also has to contend with Post 8 now.
