The Empire Report - Tuesday, July 25, 2023 - Race Analysis

RACE 1 - (1) HURRIKANE JONNYBOY barely raced at 2 and 3 but he's making regular starts at 4 and

developing into a solid racehorse - he was dead game in last week's career best 1:52.4 victory, and deserves

the narrow nod once more against a few solid rivals. (4) HUNTING ZONE (3YO) has also been maturing

nicely all year, and he also registered a new lifetime mark in last week's dominant 1:53.1 score - he handles

any trip, and could be a very big threat tonight (2) LOUS THE ATTITUDE picked up 3 wins and 2 seconds

from his first 6 lifetime starts before settling on a close 3rd (from Post 7) last week - moves inside, gets

Bartlett back, and could easily come out on top with the right trip. (3) ALL ALONE turned in a much better

effort 2 back then built on that last week, just missing to the top choice - remains a very serious threat. (6)

COUNTER OFFER has been finishing well every week and will probably do so again tonight - may have

to settle for a minor piece from this spot, however. (5) FRANCO NANDOR N has raced well since arriving

here recently but does seem to be in a tough spot against several very sharp rivals.

RACE 2 - NYSS, 2YO Filly Pacers: (6) LEANNES CHOICE won both of her qualifiers "the right way",

charging home from the back to pass all her rivals - got stuck chasing a blistering pace in her career debut

at Stga. but was able to avoid bottoming out, and ended up eventually collaring the tiring leader and

prevailing in a very snappy (track record!) 1:53 mile - not sure she'll offer any value at that 6/5 ML price,

but she did earn top billing with her work so far. (3) PEACE TALKS finished 2nd behind a pair of talented

fillies in her career debut then rallied from well back at Stga. to be a close 3rd behind the top choice - very

live player here. (5) LADY SATURN won both of her preps then finished 3rd in all 3 NYSS starts - she

gets a big driver change for tonight, and perhaps can add some value to the exotics at that 20-1 ML price.

(1) HUNTING HULA started off her career with a pair of NYSS 2nds before getting lost in the back of the

pack last week - moves all the way inside, and can be much closer to the action tonight. (4) IM A BELIEV

ER has picked up a trip of 2nds to start her career and shown the ability to race on or off the pace - could

easily land somewhere on the ticket. (2) MODERNA HANOVER is listed on the bottom here but not

because she hasn't raced well (three 3rds in 3 starts) - could easily be part of this with the tight trip.

RACE 3 - (1) FUGLEMAN was no factor in his last pair but it's hard to say if it was the class jump OR

just the bad spots - he's looking at a much better trip tonight, and we'll see if he can perk up and perhaps

pull off the upset. (3) UP THE CREEK scored at ten cents on the dollar 2 back then as the 1/5 choice last

week - neither win was overly impressive, however, so while he's clearly the one to beat, perhaps it's not

the worst time to take a small stab against him? (6) DELESTON was made to relax last week and raced

much better - he gets the worst of the draw tonight, but still worth a look if the price is juicy enough. (5)

HUNTSVILLE PLACE raced much better last week after a couple of discouraging efforts - he did hang a

bit at the end, but he was still right there 3rd behind #3- we'll see if he can keep heading the right direction.

(2) PINK FLOYD HANOVER has shown that he can pick up pieces with easy trips - chance to do that in

here too. (4) AMBITIOUSBEACHBOY usually races well when near the front....but may not be able to get

there tonight.

RACE 4 - Excelsior A, 2YO Filly Pacers: (6) BRIDGE OF LOVE won her first qualifier then was a close

3rd in her 2nd, with her trainer at the lines - she hails from top connections, and that 9-1 ML listing makes

her worth at least a look in her career debut. (5) DELIVERED ON TYME broke in her first qua. but won

her next, and has a win and a 3rd in this class to start off her career - very logical here. (7) VICEVERSA

BLUECHIP picked up a couple of NYSS 4ths to start her career then improved upon dropping to this easier

level last week, finishing 2nd - can be a player here too. (3) SHINE ON SUSAN shows a pair of slow, but

solid qualifiers - perhaps the board will yield some clues? (2) CITY OF STARS was no factor in her first

career start but could be capable of better - maybe a small piece? (4) FANSBABY was overmatched in a

pair of NYSS races then scratched sick after dropping in an Excelsior A race at Monti - definitely iffy right

now. (1) APRILS FOAL hasn't gotten the hang of things yet - waiting for some better signs.

RACE 5 - Excelsior A, 2YO Filly Pacers - tough race! (5) DRAMA CLUB improved nicely in her 2nd

career start, rallying for 2nd behind PETROL QUEEN - Kakaley certainly knows her now, and may be

confident enough to put her in play against these - one of several with a chance in here. (8) PETROL QUE

EN started off her career with an okay 4th in a NYSS race at Buffalo - she dropped down to this Excelsior

A level after that and took both starts at this level - obviously a tough draw for tonight, and it could hurt

that Stratton opted to go with #7 tonight. (1) TEMPVILLE could be the "x factor"- jogged in both qualifiers

then was sent off at 3/2 in her first career (NYSS) start - made breaks that night, then was scratched sick

when dropped in class last week - could be a BIG player here...or may be no good at all! (4)VIOLETTA

BLUE CHIP seems to be improving, finishing 4th, then 3rd, then 2nd in her last 3 starts - ok for a piece. (2)

DIZZY LIZZY shows a couple of solid tries at VD with her trainer on board, and now gets Miller in the

bike tonight - she also takes on better company, and tries the half for the first time. (6) BACKSTER has a

couple of ok tries and gets a big switch to Brennan (and is listed at 20-1 ML) - very tough post, however.

(7) PEMBROKE BUBBLY has gone behind the gate 6X already and produced a wide variety of efforts -

she was Stratton's choice, but would have to be a decent price to be worth a play from this tough spot. (3)

VALENTINE ROSE won a 4 horse baby race at Plainridge (for $10K!) but it's hard to say how well she fits

with these - we'll find out tonight.

RACE 6 - NYSS, 2YO Filly Pacers: (5) BRONX BARISTA attracted a $15K "bridge jump" show bet at

Stga. last week, got insanely hot (with her head bowed down to her chest) and couldn't keep it going once

into the stretch (after rattling of INSANELY hot fractions), tiring to 4th - this is a key week for her...will

her connections get her more relaxed for tonight, or has she become an unmanageable (but highly talented)

runaway - we shall find out! (1) HIGHWAY QUEEN raced well in the KYSS to start her career then got

her NYSS resume off to a good start at Stga., rallying very nicely for 2nd despite being caught in the back

to a :59 opening half - the main danger. (6) DELIGHTVILLE is a little hard to gauge - was up the track in

her first qualifier but then won her next- rallied from the back to make her career debut a winning one, but

was unable to sustain her bid at Stga. last week (into the vicious pace) - mixed feelings about tonight. (3)

BELLE BRIELLE broke at Stga. last time and was steppy at Monti the week before - can be a player here

with some adjustments. (2) FRESH LEGS gave it an aggressive try last start but that didn't work at all -

hard to really say how well she fits here. (4) HURRIKANEAPHRODITE was no factor in either NYSS try

so far - jury still out on her.

RACE 7 - Excelsior A, 2YO Filly Pacers: (3) GOLDEN KRISP didn't embarrass herself in a pair of NYSS

tries and now opts to take on easier in this Excelsior A division - look for an aggressive try here, as this has

always been a pretty solid angle. (1) CHERIS CHOICE struggled in Maine in her career debut but shocked

at 60-1 in her first Excelsior A try (at Monti) - raced very well again at Stga. last week, and should be a big

player tonight, as well. (4) ROLLING ON TRUTH won her career debut at Buffalo, was 2nd to #1 at Monti

then rallied for 3rd at Stga. - include her in exotics. (6) SANDY COURT rallied to be a close 2nd in her

career debut at PcD then was a steady 4th in her Excelsior A debut last week - gets Bartlett for tonight, and

a good trip could land her a nice share. (7) IDEAL SKIES rallied from well back to be 3rd in her career

debut and was able to fight off CHERIS CHOICE to pick up the win last week - clearly she fits beautifully,

but will have to overcome a very tough draw. (2) TRINEVILLE draws well but may be a notch below the

main players right now. (5) MANHATTAN PROJECT appears to still be a project at the moment

RACE 8 - NYSS, 2YO Filly Pacers: (3) CAMERICAN was very sharp winning her career debut (at 3/5) in

Buffalo, then put in a big one at Monti when 2nd to the talented BRONX BARISTA (despite a much

tougher trip) - she was REALLY outstanding at Stga. last week, having to retreat to 7th after an all out 4

wide leave into the first turn, only to charge home late for 2nd in that track record mile - clearly the one to

beat tonight. (4) BLUE POINT won both qualifiers before just missing at Buffalo to start her career - made

a break at Monti but bounced back with a powerful victory at Stga. last week - she was Bartlett's choice

(over #2), and it seems like the right one. (6) SO WELL DRESSED won her first 2 NYSS starts before

failing to maintain her bid last start (into the sizzling pace) - she'll have her chance to bounce back tonight.

(2) SEA PEARL jogged in both NYSS starts but wasn't tested at all in either - she MAY prove just as good

when forced to race a bit, and perhaps we'll learn more about her tonight. (1) YOUCANCALLMEDAISY

seems a notch below the main players right now - never hurts to draw the rail, though, (5) AMERICAN

HOPE hails from top connections but would seem to be a work in progress. (7) SILLY CHOICE was

steppy while making a good looking brush to the lead at Monti last week, continued to race erratically in

the lane then broke AND fell - came back to qualify 2 weeks later, but we'll just watch, for now.

RACE 9 - Excelsior A, 2YO Filly Pacers: (3) MIGHTY MACKIE was overmatched in her 2 NYSS tries

but drops down to this easier spot and that should perk her up considerably - we'll give her the narrow nod.

(4) CHRISS CHOICE was right behind the talented BRONX BARISTA in her PcD debut, then picked up a

pair of Excelsior A victories - the main danger! (2) KJ HUNTRESS was sent off at 41-1 last week but flew

off the car from Post 7 and never looked back - has to be respected off that good looking victory, especially

with Stratton board tonight. (6) DESPERATE DREAM had a pair of nice preps then did well to be 3rd in

her career debut, after being stuck behind a tiring leader to the top of the lane - would have liked her

chances a bit more with a better draw, though. (1) SUNNI RED draws best but does still seem a bit below a

few of the main players. (7) TACOS AND TEQUILA draws poorly after tiring last week...but that doesn't

mean that MacDonald won't blast out of there anyway- just a very tough spot. (5) IDEAL STORYTELLER

has struggled in all of her starts so far.

RACE 10 - Excelsior A, 2YO Filly Pacers: (4) AMERICAN SILKS had a pair of nice preps before

winning her first two starts - it would seem she was sold right after that, and moves to a very high % barn

as she makes her Excelsior A debut...Bartlett goes with her (over #1, who he's already won with) and we'll

trust his vote of confidence. (1) GANDY DANCER hit board in all 3 career starts, including a win at

Buffalo - draws best, and should be right in the hunt from start to finish. (6) A FEW CHOICE WORDS

won an Excelsior A race at Monti then just missed at Stga. - clearly she's a perfect fit, but will have to

overcome a less than stellar draw. (3) KEYSTONE JOSIE won her first qua. then made a big recovery after

breaking at the start of her next (with her trainer in the bike) - her barn always deserves a ton of respect

with their youngsters. (2) RUFFIAN drops out of the NYSS (for a top barn) and that should immediately

put her in the mix - she does catch a pretty solid division, though. (5) SS SUPERSTAR seems to be

improving in her last pair, but still has work to do to catch up to the main players. (7) JUST ONE BITE

seems a notch below and gets the worst post on top of that.
