The Empire Report - Tuesday, March 15, 2022 - Race Analysis

RACE 1 - MGM Rewards Gents - Leg #2 - (1) BELLS DAVID was hard to gauge class-wise shipping in

from Dover last week but he had pace sitting 3rd the whole way, and might have been right there on the

wire had he found any room in the stretch - Zeron should have some confidence in him after that mile, and

we'll look for a much more aggressive tonight. (4) BET ON BLAKE was in a no chance spot last week but

did finish with good pace (after winning the week before) - seems like a logical spot for Bartlett to leave the

gate with him, and a good trip would make him a very live player. (6) CONFIDENCE MAN was stuck

going around a troubled SAULSBROOK HERO to the half last week, resulting in a very tough trip - give

him a pass for that, and look for a return to his much better form...and consider at that 9-1 ML price. (3)

FIRST GLANCE was a winner in his first local start (NW4) but feels like he's steadily regressed since then

- needs to up his game if he hopes to be a serious player here. (2) SELECT FRIDAY skipped the first leg to

race up at Monti so that definitely makes him pretty questionable here - does hail from a barn that always

deserves a look, but he really seems like a stretch against these. (5) SAULSBROOK HERO was already

gapping to the half last week when he just drifted off the cones, bothering a few behind him (especially #6)

- prefer to just watch him this start.

RACE 2 - MGM Rewards Gents - Leg #2 -- short field, but well matched! (6) DANCE IT OUT just kept

on digging into the teeth of a sharp final half last week to end up a pretty close 3rd on the wire - the draw

figures to leave him racing from off the pace here, but there's a chance that a few of the contenders inside of

him might mix things up a bit - should be a good price, and he's one of several with a chance to come out

on top. (1) PHOENIX OF FLUZZY was sent off at 1/5 for his local debut and was able to deliver the solid

front end score - clearly a chance to come right back and do it again, but he faces a few solid foes tonight,

and does figure to be overbet. (4) MAKIN SOME NOISE was a sharp front end winner in the first leg, and

has now won 7 of 9 career starts (both loses coming locally when 2nd to the sharp HIGH ST CORRIDOR)

- faces what could be a tougher assignment tonight, and may have to get it done from off the pace, if he

wants to come out on top. (2) BOTTLE ROCKET shipped down with solid Canadian form and was a close

2nd to #4 last week, after sitting the pocket - at that 10-1 ML price, he certainly deserves consideration. (5)

HIGH BALLER is probably a decent fit with these but he's been away since 12/14, and his new barn may

need a start from him before we see his best. (3) STOP STARING ships in from Stga. off a couple of

weaker efforts, and after skipping the first round - prefer others.

RACE 3 - Tough race to find a winner! (3) MAJOR BEAN was a solid 10-2-1-2 here last year and did well

enough on the NYSS circuit to qualify for the Final - hasn't really lit the world on fire in his 2 starts as a

4YO, but the field he catches here for his YR return may perk him up in a hurry. (5) SAILBOAT HANOV

ER throws more than his share of duds but he's certainly good enough to beat a field like this - was 2nd best

to a stickout 1/5 shot last time, and has to be seen as a legitimate threat against these. (4) TURBO HILL

was our selection last time but he was scratched lame that night, and has now been away for 24 days - hard

to take a pretty short price with him. (1) ALEPPO HANOVER moves to the Super Siblings (always a

strong angle), but he was 0 for 32 last year, and is 1 for his last 52 here at Yonkers - pretty hard horse to use

on top at what figures to be a pretty short price (but definitely ok to include underneath). (2) BECKHAMS

Z TAM gave it an aggressive front end try at 31-1 but after giving his fans a good thrill, he gave way and

tired badly - maybe can do better just towing along from this spot? (6) ABERDEEN HANOVER is just 1

for 29 here over the last 2 years and lands an outside post (with his trainer on board) - minor share only. (8)

MCERLEAN gave it a decent speed try for 3rd last week but that was from the pole - not sure the 13YO

can have much say from out here. (7) IM J BEE N seems way too dull to have any impact from Post 7.

RACE 4 - (8) AMERICANLIGHTNINGN was sent off as the 1/10 choice for his U.S. debut and had no

trouble living up to expectations, going to the front then leaving his rivals in the dust with an effortless

:27.3 kicker - the clear choice tonight, even from Post 8. (3) OHARE HANOVER has done good work

since arriving here in January, always finishing strong at the end of his miles - maybe he can be the one to

kick home late and grab the place spot? (5) GOTAFOOLISHDESIRE was no good in his 2 starts here last

year but clearly returned from NJ a better horse, picking up 2nd behind the top choice last week - definitely

a chance he can complete the exacta once again. (7) BONDI SHAKE N is another recent import, and he's

been doing good things down at Fhd. (in his 2 starts) - doesn't seem like he's as talented as the top choice,

but we'll get a better picture after tonight. (6) BRAZEN BRAZILIAN is now 0 for 41 over the past 2 years

but he just missed at PcD last week, and gets Kakaley back in the bike again for tonight - good one to use

underneath in exotics. (4) UNCONTROLLABLE returns after 2+ months off and won his qualifier - maybe

sharp enough for a small piece? (1) A B COLLINS has been away since October and his qualifiers suggest

he may need a start or two before we see his best. (2) MAJOR MAKEOVER ships down from Stga. and

appears to be a little on the cheaper side.

RACE 5 - MGM Rewards Gents - Leg #2 - (4) SPORTS SECTION is just a 3YO with a handful of starts

but he certainly looked good in his Yonkers debut last week, swinging wide on the final turn then rallying

very nicely for 3rd - we'll take a shot with him tonight in a field with no clear standouts. (6) HES GONNA

GETYA was dull in his first local try (racing off a bad date) but was a crisp 3rd the next week - got erratic

behind the gate last week and actually banged into a rival before the start....then was too far back to do any

damage after finally settling down - not a bad value horse to consider. (2) JET ACE seems below a bunch

of the main players in this series but he does fit well enough in THIS division, and may be in a good spot

for an aggressive attempt - chance he could steal it. (3) RJ SPORTS IMAGE seems a little overmatched off

his Dover lines but barnmate BELLS DAVID shipped in last week and raced well -- maybe he can too? (5)

BALI BEACH beat cheaper here on 11/16 but hasn't done much since - no better or worse than most of

these, but not sure that he merits being the 2-1 ML favorite. (7) FLIGHT ONEFORTYSIX was sitting in

the back last week when he broke on the final turn - drawing Post 7 again isn't going to help his chances

tonight. (1) MAJOR SHOW was empty at 31 in his last start then didn't drop into the box last week for

Round 1 of this series - sticking with others.

RACE 6 - MGM Rewards Gents - Leg #2 - (5) SARANAC BLUE CHIP was part of a win dead heat of

50-1 shots two back but proved it wasn't just a fluke when he followed that up with last week's ded game,

1:53.1 score (this time at 5-1) - just may be the sharpest of these right now. (1) RHODENA ROAD hasn't

been the winning machine he was when he first arrived here last November, but he's still a steady player

against these types - he picked up 3rds in his last pair, and should be a threat for another good piece tonight.

(3) BARRYWHITE HANOVER has been very consistent lately, using quick starts to establish good trips

and take home good pieces - no reason he can't pull it off again tonight. (4) SAMSON BLUE CHIP

finished full of pace 2 back....but reverted to his lesser form last week, sitting an easy rail trip and coming

up empty - hard to know which version we'll see tonight! (6) PERFECTBOY HANOVER sat the pocket

last week and had dead aim on the top choice....only to come up a nose short - may have a tougher time

tonight with the outside draw, though. (7) BORN A REBEL may be a decent enough fit with these, but

faces a tough task from all the way out here. (2) COUNTER OFFER probably needs easier to be a threat.

RACE 7 - Very tough race! (3) LINNYCALLEDFRANKIE had plenty of pace coming from last in his first

start of 2021 - was sent off favored the next week, but made an early miscue -- got ignored from Post 8 the

next start and absolute flew home from the back to dead-heat for the win....at 53-1 -- got caught too far

back with no chance in his last, but was definitely lacing well late - not a bad week to hop on board with the

better draw. (4) SILENT SPLENDOR looked like a horse that HAD to have the lead to be effective... so it

was very encouraging to see him pacing very well late from OFF the pace last week - may look to take

these wire to wire tonight. (5) HIGH ST CORRIDOR is hard to fault, currently sporting a 9-4-3-1 local

slate - very legitimate threat every time he's in the box. (8) VEL MR NICE GUY was in a no chance spot in

his first start of 2022 but definitely finished with interest - he'll be a big price here, so use him on some

tickets if you think he could get into the hunt, somehow. (1) HONROLL HEAVEN qualified decently for

his new barn behind a few pretty nice horses - he has a win and a 2nd from 3 previous local starts, and may

be ready to be a player right off the bat. (6) DA GHETTO WIZARD probably needed his last NJ start but

note that he did win here last year, and this particular barn did super with the last horse they took from the

same connections (NO MAS DRAMA) - not a terrible bomb. (7) REMEMBER THE BEACH has raced

well in all 4 starts since arriving here, but seems up against it from this outside slot. (2) MARLBANK

ROAD is one of many returning recently for this barn...and many have needed a start off the layoff.

RACE 8 - Another very difficult race: (8) AWESOMENESS came to life with a big effort for 2nd last

week dropping to this bottom level - gets no luck at all with the draw but may still be able to beat this pretty

modest group...even from Post 8. (7) MACH IT SO failed badly trying to cut miles from the rail in his last

couple but this is a much softer field - may be able to come out on top, even with the terrible draw. (3)

BLUEBERRY HEAVEN really hasn't been that sharp in a while, but this is the type of field where he may

be able to come alive a bit - certainly ok to include in exotics. (2) LA PLAYER A figures to be given a

more aggressive steer than usual tonight, and this MAY be a field he can beat....but note his 17-0-1-1 local

record before falling in love at a short price. (5) SWEET TRUTH throws way more bad efforts than good

ones...but IF he decides to bring his best game here, he may be able to be a player. (1) POCKET WATCH N

is hard to like off his current lines but he does move inside, and his barn has sent out a couple of live ones

lately - at 12-1 ML from the pole, may not be a bad one for 3rd/4th. (4) EXTRADITE N just seems a little

cheap for these right now. (6) BULLVILLE KYLE is 24-0-0-3 here over the last 3 years.

RACE 9 - (3) WOODMERE SKYROLLER had been holding her own with tougher before dropping in for

the $50K tag last week - lagged in last most of the way (Post 8), but was actually full of pace once cut

loose to the final turn - can be handled aggressively from this spot, and should have a decent chance tonight

(1) POPPY DRAYTON N had been racing pretty well but took no $$ at all last week (Post 7), and was

never close to the action- have to believe we'll see a lot better version here from the rail. (2) MILLWOOD

BONNIE N was sent off at 3/5 last week but just didn't bring her best - goes to another new barn for tonight

and we'll see if she can rebound with one of her sharper efforts (which would put her right in the hunt). (7)

BALFAST N has two wins and two 2nds in her last 4 "non 8 hole" starts - obviously this spot isn't much

better, but she should still be able to rally enough for some kind of piece. (8) CHUPPAH ON seems to be in

an impossible spot, but this incredible barn can never be counted out, and did send out a 50-1 shot for 2nd

on Monday night - ok bomb for 3rd/4th. (5) TALL POPPY N finished ok behind the top ones last week -

needs to find a bit more if she wants to be a more serious player. (4) RABLE was no factor in her last

couple - maybe she can save ground and pick up a minor share? (6) YS TALLIA cut the mile and folded

badly in this class last week - may need to be in easier.

RACE 10 - (1) DIAMONDBEACH made a break at the back of the pack last week but he's rebounded

from the occasional miscue in the past - he's capable of handling better than these, but does face one very

tough foe in here - we'll give him the narrow edge in what figures to shape up as a 2 horse battle. (5)

LYONS STEEL is the other main player in here and he too can handle tougher than these - gets a total pass

for his last (sitting 7th after being bothered early in a 1:51.4 mile), but expect a sharp, aggressive try from

him tonight - the main danger. (2) TELL THEM LOU was no factor in 2 tries at this level but he's looking

at a much closer trip tonight, and that may be enough to land him a small piece. (3) HEISMAN PLAYER

has been a very good earner, but has been settling for smaller pieces for a while - expect that to continue for

his new barn tonight. (8) UNCLE JORD A is pretty good right now but was unable to overcome a similar

spot last week, and may find himself in that same boat tonight. (7) CYCLONE BANNER N grabbed wins

vs. cheaper 2 and 3 back but seems up against in this class...especially from out here. (4) YAYAS HOT

SPOT moves up in class while going from Bartlett to Blumenfeld - pass for tonight.

RACE 11 - (6) DELIGHTFUL TERROR beat the $75K claimers here not long ago (as the favorite!) and

now returns from NJ and lands in a NW7500 field (albeit with some other dropdown claimers as well) - his

current form is solid, and we'll give him top billing, even from Post 6. (1) CINNAMACK drops down from

$40K claimers, and he seems to always be a player when he draws inside - one to include on your tickets.

(4) FOX VALLEY INFERNO can be tough to gauge from week to week, but he'll be able to at least have a

say in here if he shows up on his "good" game. (7) PASS A GRILLEBEACH is a little hard to gauge

class-wise right now and his form is a little spotty as well - willing to include underneath, as he figures to

be a decent price from out here. (3) STELLAR YANKEE has only been picking up smaller pieces in his

recent starts - and seems destined for a similar result tonight. (5) SECRECY had been racing well enough

for Marohn to try him on the front end last week - that didn't work out, but maybe a conservative trip

tonight could yield a minor piece? (2) TOWNLINE FLIGHT N ships in sharp from PA, but will face much

tougher here - not sure he's up for it. (8) LATE MAIL N seems damned if he leaves and damned if he

doesn't - wait for a better spot to consider.

RACE 12 - (5) PROVOCATIVEPRINCEN seemed to be well meant 2 back (when he had to pull up with

broken equipment) then raced well last week for 2nd to a rejuvenated FIZZING N - we'll assume that Zeron

knows he needs to blast him off the car from this spot, and we'll see if the 12YO is sharp enough to pick up

his first win in some time. (1) BET YOU wasn't bad shipping in last week, rallying from the back to take

home a small check - moves all the way inside now, and is looking at a nice trip - feels like the main

danger. (2) IWONTDOTHATAGAIN has shown that he can be okay at this level when he lands on an easy

trip - a definite possibility from this spot - include underneath. (3) CLAYTONS BETTOR N raced much

better 2 and 3 starts back but was no factor again last week - not ready to use him on top, but would

certainly include in exotics. (6) MCSPIDEY picked up a pair of 3rds in his last two starts but figures to be

hurt by the draw tonight - may still be able to grab a small piece. (7) FOUR STAR FLASH is finishing a bit

better than he was several weeks ago...but will still be hard pressed to be a serious threat from all the way

out here. (4) SUNKEN TREASURE hasn't clicked so far in 2022...much like many of his barnmates. (8)

CALVIN K was no good at all in his 3 starts here this year...and now draws Post 8.
