The Empire Report - Tuesday, February 14, 2023 - Race Analysis

RACE 1 - (2) MASTER MIKI made only 11 starts last year but was starting to find better form late in the

year and that carried over into the start of 2023 - responded to last week's class drop/driver change at Fhd.

with a blowout win (at 2/5), and may be able to have success against this local bunch as well. (6) RB has

been rock solid since arriving at YR and the only real knock tonight is the post - if Buter can find him a

decent trip from Post 6, he'll have a big say here. (4) C BET HANOVER has been behaving every week

and also racing well - should be around for a good part of this with a smooth journey. (5) WHAT ABOUT

BOB came into that start 2 back with a 1 for 47 career record (13-0-0-0 here at Yonkers!) and was leaving

one of the top trainers in the game - the public nevertheless felt that he would improve massively for his

new barn and they were correct, as he scored decisively as the 4/5 choice - could only manage a 5th when

up in class from Post 8 last week, so we'll see how he does with a better starting spot tonight. (1) VEL LET

SROLL SOUTH was stuck with bad posts (and terrible trips) in his first 2 local tries - moves all the way

inside, and a much more competitive effort could be coming. (3) SPORTS SECTION was hurt by a poor

trip last time and is capable of better - small piece is possible. (7) BLACK EDITION N makes his U.S.

debut and draws horribly for it - guessing he'll need a start, but take a peep at the tote board for clues. (8)

DANCING JOE really seems up against starting from all the way out here.

RACE 2 - (4) JK LUCKY CHARMS had no prayer in his first local start when the leader got over the half

in a ridiculous :59.2- was stuck with Post 8 in his next, but still rallied crisply from the back, almost getting

3rd....catches a shaky bunch tonight, and it may be a spot he can handle. (6) BARRYWHITE HANOVER

tailed badly for quite a while but has been much better in his last several starts - Marohn isn't always the

most aggressive pilot, but this guy might have a shit tonight IF he's put in play early on. (1) CARRACCI

HANOVER hasn't been close to top form in a while, but he did show some better life in his last - good spot

tonight if he's indeed heading in the right direction. (3) MAAJAACKKOBE hasn't raced here in a few years

and his hard to gauge off his current lines - that qualifier DOES look promising, however, and he may be

worth including on your tickets. (2) KINGSTONS BAD BOY will attract $$ off the class drop but it could

be a red flag that he's already dropping below the recent claim price after just 2 starts - no value at 2-1 ML.

(7) ATTA BOY DAN has obviously been a good roll out of town lately but the 14YO millionaire is up in

class while also landing all the way outside - possible, but that 5/2 ML price is a turn off. (5) BAMSKI has

been struggling for a long time.

RACE 3 - (5) GOTHIC ROCK wasn't at his best last week, but still raced pretty well vs. better - he's been

a bit camera shy the last couple of years, but tonight's spot should give him a shot to find the winner's circle

- worth using, as long as the price is fair. (8) WESTERN JOE took decent $$ last week but was driven like

an outsider and never got into the hunt - he's obviously not on his best game right now, but he has a license

to really perk up at this bottom level - possible (if Bongiorno puts him in play this week). (1) FOUR STAR

FLASH has raced ok here in the past, lands in a good spot arriving from Monti and his barn has been off to

a decent start this meet - worth a look? (3) DEALERS TABLE drops in class shipping in for an always hot

trainer/driver combination but his current form isn't exactly pretty - may wake up in this soft spot and crush

these, but he's hard to get excited about at that 8/5 ML price. (6) CHIEFS BEACH has just one win and one

2nd from 15 local tries but he does fit with this crew - chance to make some noise (at a price) if the trip

goes his way. (2) DOCTOR BUTCH hasn't raced well locally in a very long time but the classy 13YO does

show a few good recent tries at The Swamp, and that 15-1 ML price makes him worth at least considering.

(4) BRAZEN BRAZILIAN's local struggles have been well documented - needs a very easy trip just for a

chance at a minor share. (7) WAIMAC ATTACK N is now 24-0-1-1 at YR over the last 3 years.

RACE 4 - (5) ALTA BLUES A has had a mixed U.S. career so far, but his lone local win did come (easily)

at this level back on 10/25 - he's been freshened up, and the guess is that he'll be ready for action against a

vulnerable looking field. (7) ESCAPETOTHEBEACH got away last from 8 holes the last 2 weeks (vs.

better) and just had no chance - another bad post tonight but Holland should see this as a legitimate

opportunity to race more aggressively - legitimate chance here with a live trip. (1) STRAIGHT UP COOL

struggled from bad posts vs. better in 3 of his last 4 starts but the other week produced a win at this same

level - draws the pole off the drop, and looms a legitimate threat tonight. (3) SAULSBROOK HERO hasn't

looked good for a while, and comes into tonight having missed a month after a scratch - hard to consider at

a short price right now. (8) LATE MAIL N has some better signs lately and Siegelman does take him over

#3 - brutal spot, but maybe he can sneak into the exotics at a huge price? (3) MENLO PARK tired badly off

a two hole trip upon arrival from Canada - will need to be much better to be any kind of player here. (6)

DESIRES CAPTAIN grabbed a win vs. cheaper 3 back but has otherwise struggled in most of his other

recent starts. (2) SOUTHWIND MOROCCAN hasn't beaten a single horses in his last 4 starts - at least he

drops and moves inside....we'll watch for some improvement.

RACE 5 - (2) HEART OF DIXIE has been racing well most every start but REALLY elevated his game

with last week's eye-popping victory - faces a much tougher field tonight but if he turns in an effort like last

week, he may be able to handle these too. (3) TWIN B HEART THROB has been outstanding in all 3 local

tries, especially since he's been doing it from behind each time - remains very dangerous as he drops back

into this age restricted field. (6) A ROCKNROLL STAR is now 7-5-1-0 since arriving in the U.S. and the

UK import has proven to be an astute acquisition - other than drawing outside, there's really no knocks on

him...would be no real surprise. (7) DP REALORDEAL is 6-3-2-0 locally and the 2nds were behind

standout BBS LUCKY BOY - he's a nice horse for sure, but makes his first start back since 10/25 and may

be handled conservatively, considering the sharp field and tough post. (1) BUCHANNON HANOVER was

parked every step of the way last week and somehow was still right there 2nd at the end (behind #5) -

would normally be getting major consideration off a mile like that but he's also moving way up against this

field, and may have to settle for a smaller slice. (4) SPORTY M THREE has been "ok" in NJ, but will need

to be a lot better to battle a few of the top ones in here. (5) BETTOR ROLL ON A made his first start of

'23 a winning one, parking #1 the entire way yet remaining solid for the win - he's another that may struggle

with this tougher field, however.

RACE 6- (4) IAMMRBRIGHTSIDE N was handled conservatively off the layoff and raced ok for 4th - it

looks like the time off has benefited him, and he figures to be the best price among the contenders...making

him worth a play. (3) MUSCLE MACH A was hard to gauge off his qualifiers but his first start for one of

our top barns was a good one, rallying for 2nd to a runaway winner - eligible to be even better tonight. (1)

SPORTS BETTOR was on a nice roll until throwing a clunker 2 back - followed that up with an even try

last week, and may be ready to get back to his best from the pole tonight - logical threat, but note his 1 for

31 record last year before falling too much in love. (5) HEART ON MY SLEEVE was good from a tough

spot 2 back then put on the lead last week - seemed to lose hear when the ultra-sharp winner ripped past

him to 3/4s and folded after that, but is certainly eligible to rebound tonight - decent value horse to consider

(2) CAROLINA MAGIC was sent off 57-1 last week and raced accordingly - maybe he can tow along for a

minor share from this spot? (6) UNICO LEGEND N has only been able to grab small pieces, and even then

only after easy trips - not a great spot tonight. (7) TERRITORY was an ok 3rd last week but lands outside

and that figures to really hurt. (8) TOATSMYGOATS was an all out 3rd last week and now is behind the 8

ball - wait for a better spot.

RACE 7 - (1) JUDDY DOUGLAS A just turned in a pair of sharp tries at this level, and gets the best of the

draw for tonight - we'll give him a slight edge over a couple of tough foes thanks to his post advantage, but

it should still be a good race. (3) CARLISIMO finished well once free last week and generally races well at

this level pretty much every start - he's had some trouble getting his picture taken the past couple of years,

so make sure to get a fair price if using him on top. (6) GENIUS MAN has been holding his own at higher

levels and might have been the top choice (of tonight's drop) if not for the outside draw - still worth using,

since the price will likely be decent. (2) MARLBANK ROAD has returned sharp from the winter break,

hitting the wire 2nd in his last pair - steps up a peg, but an easy trip could land him another nice slice. (5)

BRAEVIEW BONDI A had been ultra consistent for a long time but he threw a bit of a clunker 2 back and

was just ok last week - others just seem sharper right now. (7) BOILING OAR certainly impressed upon

arrival from Dover, delivering a sharp rallying 8 hole victory - takes a double jump for tonight while also

drawing outside again....and that just may slow him down a bit. (4) THE DOWNTOWN BUS raced ok a

couple of times off the layoff - probably needs an easy trip just for a chance at a small piece tonight.

RACE 8 - (3) SEZANA N is really feeling good these days, a game winner after a long battle 2 back, then

an excellent first over 2nd to the odds-on winner in her last - she used to be too camera shy to consider on

top, but that has definitely changed. (1) CAVIART CHERIE lacked room in her first start of the year and

had to settle for 3rd, then rallied nicely for 2nd (behind the prohibitive choice) last week - very real threat

from the pole. (6) NUTTINBUTTHEBEST won her first start of the year then followed that up with a 2nd

and 3rd- her quick starts make her a threat even from Post 6 (2) SHELLIE DE VIE was dull in her seasonal

return but a bit more alert last week - draws well, and a decent piece is within reach. (4) BETTER WATCH

IT is 0 for 10 here at Yonkers but generally races well for smaller pieces - chance for more of the same

tonight. (7) LADY DELA RENTAA went a big try for a new barn off a bad date 2 back...but then threw a

clunker last week - she's capable of some big efforts, but may need a better spot before we see another. (8)

ELLEOFADELI didn't win a race in 2022 until her last start....and has won two since then -- hitting on all

cylinders now (like most of her barnmates) but may have trouble finding her way into this race. (5) KATYS

DELIGHT hasn't been bad, but may need a little cheaper to strut her best stuff.

RACE 9 - (3) WICHITA LINEMAN rebounded from the miscue 2 back in a big way, delivering the sharp

"brush and crush" victory last week - he's technically moving up in class here, but the same can be said for

almost ever other horse in the race - he'll be a very short price as he looks to make it 2 in a row. (2) WARD

AN EXPRESS A is just 1 for 17 here over the last 2 years but he's sharp right now, and draws inside - may

be able to add some value to the exotics. (1) ROCKATHON basically just stole a win 2 back as he took a

basement field to the half in :59.2 then jogged in 1:55 - had no real chance closing into a fast half last week,

but tonight's draw makes him a big threat for a good piece. (5) HICKFROMFRENCHLICK just flew to the

top last week, was outbrushed by the top choice to 3/4s but somehow held on to 2nd even as the winner

drew off - have to include him underneath once again. (4) GAMBLINGTERROR landed on a dream trip in

a "fall apart race" last week to spring the 40-1 shocker - he'll likely look to save ground again, but it's

unlikely he'll have the same success vs. these. (7) DEETZY is stuck outside again and that will limit his

options - will need lots of trip luck for even a small share. (6) REBELLIOUS broke getting the lead last

week and will likely have to come off the gate tonight - not really his preferred style. (8) YER SO BAD

was just ok last time, and really faces an uphill battle tonight.

RACE 10 - (2) BELTANE A was "sneaky ok" from a pair of 8 holes to start off the year then a solid 3rd

from a better spot last week - draws well again, and maybe can parlay that into a win in the finale. (5)

GARDYS LEGACY A was well backed for his new barn last week but came up a little short at the end

(racing off a layoff) - figures to be tighter tonight, and looms a very live threat. (3) ON THE VIRG likely

needed his last, and several of his barnmates really came alive last week - might he be next? (1) FLYING

ART A shows some mixed efforts so far in his brief U.S. career - did a nice job picking up 2nd in his

Hilltop debut, and his best effort could make him a threat tonight. (4) SOUTHWIND PETYR showed

ability as a youngster but comes off a "meh" 4yo campaign (2 wins, $36K) - showed a better effort in his

last NJ start, but would still need to improve more to threaten the top ones. (7) PRO BEACH left well last

week, ended up with a two hole trip and finished an even 4th - he fits well, but would have liked him a lot

more from an inside slot. (8) REAL LUCKY N lands outside again and hasn't been in top form for some

time. (6) I GET THAT is another that has struggled for an extended period.
