The Empire Report - Friday, March 4, 2022 - Race Analysis

RACE 1 - (4) SMALLTOWNTHROWDOWN went off at 25-1 when claimed for $50K two back - he was

sent off at 8/5 the next week (with the expectation that HE would sprout wings, like so many others that

have joined this barn recently) and he likely WOULD have been a very easy winner had he not made a

most untimely miscue before they turned for home - he somehow recovered to lose by less than 2 lengths,

and puts the trotting hopples back on for tonight - we'll go with him in the opener. (1) MOSTINTERESTIN

GMAN is generally rock solid in spots like this and is clearly the one to beat - he's been like an ATM for

his barn for several years, winning more than his share every season. (2) HUNTING AS was a very good

looking front end winner last week, showing no rust despite missing some time - should be able to stay

close from start to finish. (6) SO LONG HANOVER beat this class last week, and might have been right

there with better 3 back if not for a break in the stretch - outside draw may put him at a disadvantage,

though. (5) LADY JETER ships in sharp from Rosecroft, and has always done well here in the past - may

be a notch below a few of the main players, though. (7) CHAMPAGNE ON ICE was an "ugly" winner 2

back, then wilted on the lead in her last - moves outside, and will need to be a lot sharper to be a serious

threat tonight. (8) EMOTIONS RICHES won three in a row vs. easier before coming up a little flat at the

end in his 2 starts at this level - tough task from all the way out here. (3) LOOK IN MY EYES seems to

need a bit easier to be most effective.

RACE 2 - (5) MAC N CHEESE's last race was much better than it looks, as he was actually WAY back on

turn three, then paced a very solid final 3/8ths - clearly he's WELL off his best form, but it's still hard to

imagine him losing to these. (2) ALOTBETTOR N wasn't bad 3 and 4 starts back - was a big "go" the next

week, but got killed when the front runner stopped and shuffled him out of the race - not sure why he faded

so badly after a good start in his last, but this is a field where he really should be able to make his presence

felt. (1) MCSPIDEY had been struggling but came up with a better effort last time - hard to leave him out

of the exotics from this good spot. (4) SUNKEN TREASURE hasn't been good at all since returning from

the layoff....but may still be best of the others! (7) WAIMAC ATTACK N was a nice 2nd at Stga. last week

but sports a 16-0-1-1 record here over the past 2 years....and Post won't help either! (3) IM J BEE N draws

well for a strong barn but just hasn't been any good for some time. (6) BULLVILLE KYLE is 23-0-0-3 at

Yonkers over the past 3 seasons - pretty hard to given him an endorsement.

RACE 3 - Solid field: (7) MOONLIGHT SHADOW just missed 2 back, then exploded off the perfect trip

to jog in his last - moves to a barn that usually improves fresh stock, and that would make this guy mighty

dangerous... even from Post 7. (2) KEYSTONE NOLAN made a break for new connections last week but

moves to another barn for tonight, and has enjoyed success at this level on many occasions - could easily be

a threat tonight. (5) LOUIE LOUIE raced well in his YR debut, securing a two hole trip to the stickout

winner and completing the exacta - drops down into tonight's age-restricted race, and should be a player

with these too. (4) CASHNCAM has been looking better lately, especially last week - definitely one to

include in exotics. (1) ER VEGAS has a lot of recent starts against all-age 40s, but definitely prefer it

facing 3-5YO 30s - another to consider underneath. (3) HURRIKANEKINGJAMES cut the mile here

before weakening to 3rd in his first start of 2022, then did the same thing last week - needs to find a little

more if he hopes to win one of these. (6) RISKY MILLION absolutely fits with these, but will need some

things to go his way with the outside draw. (8) BARRYWHITE HANOVER is okay right now, but another

8 hole figures to compromise his chances once again.

RACE 4 - (5) HEY LIVVY has a ton of talent (when right!), but can also be her own worst enemy (as we

saw when she blew up on the lead here on 2/11, in her first start of the year) - that miscue should help her

price tonight, so we'll give her a chance to make amends. (2) NO MAS DRAMA has a solid local history,

and qualified back nicely for her 2022 return - she'll try it WITHOUT hopples tonight, so I suppose that

does add some element of risk....but no more so that the top choice! (3) NEW HEAVEN hasn't looked sharp

in his first 2 starts of the new season...but we know he's capable of better than that, and his price should

remain pretty juicy...worth a stab? (6) BARRY BLACK raced gamely first over last week only to get

nipped on the wire by #4....but was then declared the winner, via disqualification -- can be a player again

tonight if a few things go his way. (4) EUROBOND was sluggish almost the entire way last week, but

found his best nearing the wire and surged late for the victory....only to be DQ'd for a first turn pylon

violation (which happens pretty often, but rarely, if ever, penalized) - can be a threat again tonight, but not

really interested at that 9/5 ML price! (7) KASHA V gets class relief, but does figure to be too far back to

do any real damage. (8) LEAN HANOVER grabbed 3rds in his last pair, but just doesn't seem to at his best

right now - Post 8 only makes things that much tougher. (1) OOH RAH has perked up quite a bit since

losing on the lead at the bottom level (as the 1/10 favorite) 4 starts back - may be up against these, however,

even from the pole.

RACE 5 - (7) LUCIANO N could be a good bomb here - he was a very nice 2nd in his first start off the

layoff, and his barn has actually come to life recently - worth a flyer in a tough race to decipher. (4)

HEAVENS GAIT has been away 3 weeks since his last at PcD, but some extra time off may benefit him (as

he tired in that last start) - he's definitely unreliable, but capable of big efforts at time - barn has been hot

enough to make this guy worth a look. (2) ITSMYCHECK GB hit a rough patch but was ok 2 back, then

able to beat a NW7500 field last week - shouldn't have any problem handling the one class jump (he's

beaten these before), and he looms a serious threat tonight. (5) LIKE CLOCKWORK has shown that he can

hang with these with the right trip - definitely one to include on the bottom of exotics. (8) MYKINDACHIP

drew the pole in a softer spot last week and was able to wire the field - he still fits with this bunch too, but

the task will be much tougher from Post 8 for the 13YO! (3) ON THE VIRG qualified solidly after being

away since late November - guessing that he'll probably need a start or two. (1) WARDAN EXPRESS A

certainly fits with these, but he's been off since 12/19, and his barn has been ice cold since the start of the

new year. (6) ST LADS BEAT IT crushed a NW5000 field when hammered at the windows for his local

debut, but has failed to come close in 2 starts since then - waiting for some better signs from him.

RACE 6 - (6) B NICKING showed some solid Ohio form before arriving here, and went a big mile for his

new barn last week, a close 2nd best to the sharp winner - tough draw, but that also means a better price -

worth a play here. (2) ETHAN T HANOVER was handled conservatively in his first off the layoff but

definitely had trot finishing - expect him to be much more serious tonight...and a major player. (1) THE

LAST CHAPTER raced conservatively in his first start of the year and was an even 4th, vs. better - drops,

draws the poles, and certainly should be included in exotics, (4) BELIEVER has been as steady as can be,

hitting board week after week - prefer a couple of others for the top spots, but he can surely land

somewhere on the ticket. (7) KINDA LUCKY LINDY rallied pretty well for 4th off the layoff vs. better

than these - got lost in the back last week and while this spot isn't any better, he's still worth including

underneath, at a big price. (3) MAGICAL JOURNEY left from Post 8 off the layoff, worked out a two hole

trip but just crawled home from the final turn (hard to say if he was short, or had some other issue) - it's

anybody's guess as to what we'll get from him tonight. (8) SWISS HOUSE ON FIRE was able to last for

3rd in this class last week, but faces a much tougher assignment from Post 8 tonight. (5) SHOEMAKER

HANOVER has been doing great work in Amateur races, but does seem a bit overmatched here.

RACE 7 - (1) COACH CAL was an even 4th against 15s in his first start of the year and had no prayer in

his last couple - drops to the bottom level, draws best, and gets a weak nod in a field with not a lot of form.

(7) LETTUCERIPRITAA found a good spot from Post 8 last week but bottomed out chasing the hot pace -

he's nowhere near top form right now, but still may be able to be a threat with these. (4) ZOEEZ BOY

HENRY picked up a 3rd three back and rallied for another 3rd last week - as good as any in this pretty

modest bunch. (2) LOTTERY WINNER will likely be the solid chalk off a pair of recent 2nds, but he's far

too unreliable to ever back at a very short price. (5) ARI ALLSTAR just missed in a slow mile 2 back, but

was beaten 25 lengths in his last - maybe a small piece? (3) WINNING LINE seems too cheap, but does

draw well for a hot barn. (8) OUR REGAL IDEAL N might be worth a look from an inside post, but seems

up against it from out here. (6) WE THINK ALIKE is hard to recommend off his last couple.

RACE 8 - Good race! (3) HAYEK found himself on the lead last week after STORMY KROMER was

unable to take over from him - it's not his preferred style of racing, but he was still there until right near the

wire - he may benefit from a contested pace tonight, and that would give him a shot to use his good brush at

the right time - one of several who could take this. (5) MISSISSIPPI STORM gave it a big try here on 2/11

in his first start back off the layoff, used hard and still a close 3rd - followed that up with a sharp win at

Dover last week, and gets the benefit of drawing inside #6 and #7 tonight - very legitimate threat. (6) STOR

MY KROMER made his first start of 2022 a winning one (as the favorite), but ran into trouble last week

when he couldn't get the lead at the quarter from HAYEK - he's rebounded from disappointing efforts in the

past, and it's hard to resist using him on some tickets at that insane 20-1 ML price. (7) WARRIOR ONE has

been on what seems like a never ending form spree but he added a new wrinkle last week when he was able

to win from OFF the pace, from Post 8 - hard to not at least consider him almost any week he's in the box!

(2) STREET GOSSIP was a solid 2nd in his first attempt at this Open level, and could take home another

good chunk with the right trip tonight. (1) HILL OF A HORSE has been very solid since adding Lasix a

few starts back, and that includes last week's solid rallying 4th - always a threat to rally for a share if things

go his way. (4) HAT TRICK MARLEAU remains unproven at this top level.

RACE 9 - Yet another tough race on a card full of them! (2) HUNDIE N is the barn's ONLY winner this

year, and he certainly had to work hard to pick up that victory - that being said, he may prove to be best of

these once more in a race with no standouts. (3) RETOUR AU JEU finally put it all together with that

blowout win on 2/18....but then was scratched from his last - not quite sure what to expect from him

tonight. (1) SECRECY has been pretty solid lately, even if only for pieces - willing to include underneath

once again. (8) WEONA SIZZLER A improved off the class drop last week, but not enough that he's worth

using on top from all the way out here - may be able to find a way to grab a piece, though. (5) ROCK

LIGHTS was a winner in his first start of the year despite an ugly looking qualifier, but was unable to build

off that in his last - leaning towards others. (4) FLYINGEVENBETTOR N is now 0 for 14 at YR after last

week's total clunker - hard to make a case for a wake up call tonight, but it's not impossible. (7) GLACIS

steps up after failing to win in two tries at the bottom level - not a horrible bomb for 3rd/4th, though. (6)

SHINY BLACK BEAMER started to race better for a few starts but reverted to his lesser form last week.
